Abstract
This study aims to develop a cognitive-behavioral therapy program for the promotion of parent-child relationships and verify its effectiveness for parents who have experienced childhood attachment trauma and are raising their children. The final program was designed as follows. Step 1: Introduction; Step 2: Traumatic Memory Processing; and Step 3: Attachment Promotion and Integration. To examine the components of each step, Step 1: Introduction consists of psychological education and relaxation training; Step 2: Traumatic Memory Processing, of self-monitoring, relaxation training, exposure training and self-perception-related cognitive reconstruction; and Step 3: Attachment Promotion and Integration, of self-monitoring, relaxation training, parenting-related cognitive reconstruction and parenting skill training. From a group of people who experienced attachment trauma by the child-bearer before they were 18 and were raising a child under 8, 12 people were finally selected as program participants. They had scores in the index score for complex PTSD symptoms and those who had medication and psychotherapy were excluded. Six subjects were randomly allocated respectively to an experimental group and a control group. For the experimental group, an individual counseling program was provided once a week, for 90 minutes per session, a total of 12 sessions. To measure the effect of the program, dividing factors into the parent¡¯s intrapersonal factors and parent-child relationship factors, questionnaire surveys were conducted before the implementation of the program, immediately after the termination, and three months after the termination of the program. The main results of this study are as follows. First, the cognitive-behavioral therapy program showed positive changes in parent¡¯s intrapersonal factors, including complex PTSD symptoms, post-traumatic contextual memory pattern, post-traumatic identity change, post-traumatic emotion, and emotional control difficulty. In addition, the program had effects, showing significant changes in the variables of parent-child relationships, such as parenting dysfunctional thinking and parenting behavior. Second, the effects of the cognitive-behavioral therapy program lasted three months later.
